Alexandrina Hemsley

Alexandrina can be passionate, angry, hopeless and joyous about dance today. She always seems to get in a fight about working conditions for dancers and the awful title of ‘emerging artist’ more often than not applied to female choreographers makes her scream (inwardly). Having an afro has shaped her day to day experience more than she currently knows what to do with and politicised her thinking irrevocably. She can dance, muse, rant, fire-up, picnic, screech over London rent and be ever-hopeful about choreography and all its extended practices. Alongside BELLYFLOP, she choreographs, collaborates and performs mostly in London.
